The Clean Energy Wire team invites key collaboration partners, network members and funders from Europe. At this event on December 6th in Berlin we aim to reconnect and to discuss how to shape the future of collaborative climate and energy journalism at a time when the media and the public has been waking up to the challenges of the climate crisis. This event is by invitation only.

The COP26 climate conference has offered the latest proof: Across the globe, policy makers, businesses, courts, media and the broader public have woken up to the challenges of the climate crisis. Driven by the mostly young climate activists, more and more countries are seriously discussing and planning their way to climate neutrality. It’s time for Clean Energy Wire CLEW to discuss with its network members and long-standing partner organisations what this means for climate and energy policy journalism. How can journalists now help drive the necessary changes, make sure governments and businesses act appropriately while keeping all groups of society on board? What should coverage look like when everybody is talking about climate?

The meeting will offer networking opportunities and insights, ranging from sessions on climate litigation and climate communication, to political input on current energy and climate issues in Germany and Europe. And a fun quiz will add an extra for all who attend.

The event will take place at an exciting time to be in Berlin as the three German parties working to form a new coalition - the Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Green Party and the Free Democrats (FDP) - aim to wrap up their talks by the end of November and elect the new chancellor in the very same week of December 6th.

CLEW will therefore offer participants a unique insight into the formation and the plans of the new government: Felix Beutler is our confirmed keynote speaker. Felix is a transport policy expert and the deputy head of the Representation of the Federal State of Hesse with the Federal Government. In the coalition talks, he served as the sherpa of the Green Party delegation. In that assignment, his role was to draft and formulate the documents to be negotiated and that will eventually provide the basis for government policy in the transport sector.
