The Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BASE) performs regulatory, licensing and supervisory tasks for the German government when it comes to disposing of and storing, handling and transporting high-level radioactive waste. The BASE supports and advises the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety on issues related to nuclear disposal and nuclear safety. It is also concerned with the search for a disposal site for high-level radioactive waste.
