European Parliament committee on the environment, public health and food safety (ENVI)
The EP’s ENVI committee is responsible for environmental policy and environmental protection measures concerning air, soil and water pollution, waste management and recycling, dangerous substances and preparations, noise levels, climate change, protection of biodiversity; sustainable development; international and regional measures and agreements aimed at protecting the environment; and the European Environment Agency. ENVI is one of about 20 standing committees, which instruct legislative proposals through the adoption of reports, propose amendments to Plenary and appoint a negotiation team to conduct negotiations with the Council on EU legislation. They also adopt own-initiative reports, organise hearings with experts and scrutinise the other EU bodies and institutions.
