The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim is an independent, non-profit institute which describes itself as one of Germany's leading economic research institutes. It publishes frequent surveys on the situation of financial markets as well as a large-scale annual study on innovation activities in the German economy. One of its six research departments focuses on environmental and resource economics and environmental management.
