First city-wide, all-year diesel driving ban takes effect in Stuttgart, home of Daimler and Porsche

SWR

Germany’s first extensive all-year driving ban for older diesel vehicles has taken effect in Stuttgart, the hometown of carmakers Daimler and Porsche. Public broadcaster SWR reports that the city does not plan targeted police checks, but that the ban would be controlled in regular checks. Diesel vehicles meeting the Euro-4 or older emissions standards are barred from entering the city. At first, only commuters will be affected, as Stuttgart residents have a transition period until April 2019, writes SWR.
