Power sector wants tax funds for energy transition

Die Welt

The federal government should use some of the considerable budget surplus of 2018 to build up a “kind of climate reserve”, Stefan Kapferer, head of energy industry association BDEW, said in Berlin. Upcoming costs for Germany’s energy transition include compensation payments to fossil power plant owners, compensation to consumers for rising power prices and subsidies necessary to support structural change in former coal mining regions, Daniel Wetzel writes in Die Welt.
