Agora Energiewende

Think tank on German, European and international climate and energy policy

Agora Energiewende is a think tank funded by the European Climate Foundation and the Stiftung Mercator that focuses on dialogue with energy policymakers. It initiates and commissions research and uses the results to define the challenges of the Energiewende, presents possible solutions and creates a strategy for transforming Germany’s electricity sector. Acknowledging Germany's societal and cross-party consensus to shut down all its nuclear power by 2022 and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 to 95 percent no later than 2050, it brings together experts and decision makers and aims to use a maximum of scientific expertise to discuss feasible policy measures without ideological commitments.
Just before the latest EEG reform, the director of Agora Energiewende, Rainer Baake, became Permanent State Secretary in the German Ministry of Energy and Economics, the institution in charge of the new EEG.
On its website, Agora Energiewende offers many of its publications for download in English (Service -> Publications -> extended search). Older material is published in German.

Like the Clean Energy Wire, Agora Energiewende is a project funded by Stiftung Mercator and the European Climate Foundation.
