SPD - Social Democratic Party

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) is currently the junior partner in the government's ruling "grand coalition" of conservative Christian Democrats and Social Democrats. The SPD favours the transition to a low-carbon economy. It sees highly efficient coal and gas stations as bridge-building technologies until energy demand can be fully satisfied by renewables. Costs for the transformation of the energy system have to be shared evenly between consumers.
