The 5MW / 5MWh battery park in Schwerin was commissioned by municipal utility WEMAG and built by energy storage system provider and integrator Younicos. WEMAG has been using the energy storage system to provide frequency regulation and other balancing services to its grid. In a region with numerous large-scale wind power facilities, a particular feature of the battery park is to enable the addition of more renewable energy capacity.
