ifo - Institute for Economic Research

Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (ifo)

The Ifo Institute is an economic research facility and think tank linked to the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) in Munich. It also cooperates with the Center for Economic Studies (CES) and CESifo. It focuses on applied economic research and aims to provide policy advice as well as academic material. The Ifo Center for Energy, Climate and Exhaustible Resources (inter alia) publishes research on the German energy transition and electricity markets.

The institute's president Clemens Fuest has been very critical of German energy policy, calling it "fundamentally flawed" in an interview.

The Ifo Institute is a non-profit organisation that is funded by the German federal government and the state of Bavaria. Some 50 per cent of its revenue is derived from funded research projects and grants as well as member fees and income from publications.

The Ifo Institute lists its members and their respective research fields in its press centre.
