Climate change is not just an environmental crisis, but a growing source of civil unrest and global violence. In his groundbreaking new book, The Heat and the Fury: On the Frontlines of Climate Violence, environmental journalist and author Peter Schwartzstein lays out in detail how drought, heat and other climate extremes are exacerbating conflict, and all through the stories of the people who are in the middle of this 'mess.'
Peter will be joined by Nisreen Elsaim, a prominent Sudanese climate activist with over ten years of experience in climate policy, peace and security, and youth empowerment. Nisreen, who is currently on a Re.Generation fellowship, has held leadership roles within the United Nations, including as Chair of the UN Secretary-General's Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change.

The event will be moderated by Sven Egenter, Executive Director and Editor-in-Chief of Clean Energy Wire.
